I use qualitative and quantitative methods to carry out research at the interface of critical development studies and political ecology. My areas of interest include biodiversity conservation and rural livelihoods; involuntary displacement policy and practice; agrarian change and rural transformations; social impact assessment; and the political economy of natural resource governance.
I served as Managing Editor (2021-24) of Ecology, Economy and Society – an open access, peer reviewed journal of the Indian Society for Ecological Economics (INSEE). I am Associate Editor for Environment, Politics and Society, a section of the journal Frontiers in Human Dynamics. I am also an Associate Editor of Conservation & Society, an open access journal exploring linkages between society, environment and development. I am an External Member of the Human Research Ethics Committee of the Wildlife Conservation Society – India.
